Who is Darlene Love? Media Launch/Project Management

PROJECT: Who is Darlene Love?

CLIENT: REEL Good Productions

GOAL: Project management/publicity/partner         engagement for potential feature film production

Lisa was tasked with building a new wave of recognition about Darlene Love, the beloved '60's back-up vocalist and Phil Spector protege.

The project began when REEL Good Productions brought Lisa on board after purchasing the rights to Darlene Love's autobiography, My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story. The ultimate goal was to create a film entitled Who is Darlene Love? based on the book.

After being discovered by legendary record producer, Phil Spector, Love began performing back-up for Elvis, Aretha and Frank Sinatra. She epitomized the quintessential 'girl group' sound that captivated the 1960's. Love also appeared in the Lethal Weapon film series as actor Danny Glover's wife.

As project manager, Lisa's strategic plan included private media dinners with Darlene, in-studio interviews, musical performances and a potential public broadcasting tie-in. The work began in Baltimore and began a renaissance of well-deserved accolades Darlene so richly deserved many years prior.

Through her leadership and referrals, SOBO Productions joined the team, as did a former colleague, a PBS/Discovery channel consultant.

Materials and website were created and the production team, led by SOBO, produced The Concert of Love, which not only launched Love's comeback but was the only LIVE-to-tape recording of Darlene Love in concert at the time. It aired on PBS via American Public Broadcasting. Darlene's well-deserved notoriety from this project catapulted her into back into consideration, again, for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where she was inducted a year later - and, another film, Twenty Feet from Stardom which won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, accepted by Darlene Love in 2014.
